This is the most important pyramid in Palenque, on top is the Temple of the Inscriptions, several walls full of the writting of the Mayas, the Ghyps. There the story of the most famous king is told, the deeds of Pakal, whose tomb was later found at the center of the pyramid.
This are the "inscriptions" the glyphs that tells the story of the life of Pakal, it was a long story indeed, he died at the age of 82 more or less.
In the past it was allowed to visit the interior, here is the stairway leading to the base of the pyramid (52 meters down) and take a look a the 5 ton lid of the sarcophagus, today the whole pyramid is off-limits due to the high level of damages to the pyramid and to make some restorations.
This are other temples in the archaeological zone. Take a special note on the roof structures.

This is a 3-foot tall incense burner, magnificent, there were about 100 similar to this postioned around the Temple of the Cross.
Ruins are seen as stone and rubble, the Mayans used a lot of color in their sculptures and constructions.

This little statue is one foot tall, and the bird-head is removable.
Kinich, the Sun God, this statue is life-size, wonderful.
This was a captive king that was prisoner of a king of Palenque, his name and kingdom is written in his leg.
