Balam-Kú - the Bat volcano

If you see this sign in the higway
You are certainly on the Escarcega-Chetumal route near Calakmul.
The sign is serious, be aware (not afraid) of bats crossing the road after sunset.

There is a huge cave called Balam-Kú, residence of millions of bats.

Please SLOW-DOWN to 40 Km/h, yeah from those 120km/h you are doing in this brand-new super duper highway.
The speed reduction is needed for two things: avoiding an accident due to lossing control after hitting a bat and to avoid killing this amazing and very usefull animals.

Every night this millions of bats emerge from their cave to feed on the Calakmul biosphere forest. They are not looking to bite humans, but hunting for insects. Imagine what would happen if the bats didn't eat so many pests!!!!

The bats also pollinate flowers and when they eat the fruit, they help disseminate the seeds, so the forest gets three services from this usefull animal. Please don't kill them, they are harmless to humans and we need them a lot.

Interesting trees

Cenote Ik Kil, Yucatan

Nothing beats a dip in a very refreshing and very cool Cenote (sink hole).  In Yucatán there are no surface rivers, but underground ones and sometimes there is an opening to get them.

Uxmal, Yucatán

A very complex city, full of very amazing architecture.

The snake is present in almost all the constructions, a high deity.

In the evening you are welcome to return for the Light show using the same ticket  you used in the morning.

Mexico city on Easter

Easter means a big holliday in Mexico and lots of people from Smogcity leave the valley to go on vacations. The city does not get deserted (unfortunately) but at least the traffic is much more tranquile and the pollution levels go very low, in this days it's a pleasure to see the city from the plane.

First picture the "Bosque de Chapultepec" the main park of the city

Second picture is the "Paseo de la Reforma" with the monument to the Independence clearly visible.

Third picture is the WTC-Mexico, the building is shinning and the surrounding area looks truly nice with a clear sky and very reduced amount of smog.
